Mac Retro Matte Liquid Lipsticks

Back in January, after observing the huge trend of matte liquid lipsticks for long enough, I decided to get up to speed and order the latest release – Mac Retro Matte Liquid Lipcolour. I picked up two shades, a peachy nude, Back In Vogue and a rich cranberry red, Dance With Me. My initial thoughts were really positive… I don’t mind the packaging – I find it pretty standard for Mac, the shade range is also good and the price point is OK at £21 each. I first swatched each shade on my wrist to see what the colouring and texture was like. I was impressed on first swatch as both were very pigmented, smooth and opaque which is what I would look for in a liquid lipstick. I then went to try them on the lips, both applied with ease although I would recommend using a lip liner to ensure absolute precision as once they dry, they really set. I would describe the formula as a creamy mousse and the applicator felt smooth and easy to navigate. They don’t …

My Santorini Makeup Look

I was discussing with my friend the other day about outfit and makeup planning… Something I like to do before I drift off into a deep beauty sleep – why is it called that? I usually wake up with a new spot right in the centre of my forehead and an unsightly kink in my hair… When an occasion pops up, be it a London trip, a family dinner or a summer getaway, my makeup look must be premeditated. Since my collection is forever growing, I like to shop my stash and make use of products or add new ones, when I can and so… I have my Santorini makeup look with hues of turquoise and coral! First up, we have my Chanel Les Beige Tinted Moisturiser. I use the shade 010 however I think I will be picking up 020 when I am tanned. I bought this a few months ago and I have used it everyday since – My ten foundations are feeling neglected, I’m sure! – I adore this product, it has …

A Year of EKD

As I sit in the drawing-room, instagramming and waiting for my headache to subside before returning to my creative writing assignment, I cant help but wonder if ‘May’ hates me. By May, I mean the month… Every year, from lets say the middle of April to the end of June, life always seems to go tits up! I am irrationally blaming May, and sticking to it. Perhaps, it’s because a few years ago during my fitness rampage, I posted a picture on instagram saying ‘MAY IS MY BITCH,’ all for fitness and training purposes, obviously. I regret it now, since my disrespect to said month seems to be coming back to slap me in the face, every. damn. year. I appreciate that I haven’t blogged in months, and my contribution to EKD has been inconsistent at best, however I am in my third year of university and it has been the biggest struggle, more in terms of time-consuming than anything and when I’m not working on essays or reading children’s books for my Lit module, …

Contour Me Pretty

I can never leave the house without contouring; adding a subtle shadow to sculpt my face makes all the difference to any makeup look. I have noticed that some find the entire prospect of a ‘contour’ completely overwhelming, like what product is best? And what brush do I use? And where do I put it? Should I blend it? Etc. My three tips I’ve learnt when contouring is suck in your cheeks, make sure you put the product in the right place! You should be able to see the natural shadow when you pout, making it a whole lot easier. Second, blend, blend, and blend! Depending on the amount of definition you want, blending the bronzer or contour colour well will make such a difference, even if you want to build up the colour, blend after each application. And third, less is often more. A contour job for everyday and for an occasion/evening is very different, however the majority of the time less is more. A cool toned blush will often look more natural and …

How To Look Good Nude

There is nothing quite like a nude lip to compliment a perfected smokey eye and bronzed skin. Be it a brown or pink nude, I love them all! Nude lips are classic, understated and give a sophisticated touch to any makeup look. I love that a nude lip is so versatile, it can be glossy and seductive or effortless and beach ready! Blush Nude by Tom Ford is my go-to nude lippy; I do believe I am on my 4th or 5th bullet! This shade of pink nude is my perfect match. I like to use either the Charlotte Tilbury Lip liner in Pillow Talk, or Mac What Comes Naturally as liner. Sometimes I will use both to create a more defined and plump look. I adore the formula of TF lipsticks; I don’t believe I have found anything that beats them. Blush Nude is no exception, being creamy, highly pigmented and long lasting, not to mention the stunning packaging! You can never have too many Tom Ford lipsticks, thus why I have another nude …

November Favourites

I have discovered so many amazing products this month and I’ve been reaching for some much loved old favourites as well! The Christmas Chanel palette is my new obsession, I adore dark smokey eyes and this fits that brief perfectly, with a shimmery twist. With 5 new shades, this is my favourite Chanel palette, all the shadows are pigmented, creamy and blend like a dream. This is also limited edition, which adds to the luxurious element. To blend all this eyeshadow this month I have been finding myself reaching for my Mac 217 constantly. Everyone needs this brush, it is simply the best. On my nails this month I have been wearing this Maybelline Gel Nail Polish in Rose Poudrè.  I find it lasts a good 7 days before any small chips appear. It is also a great subtle colour for work and matches everything, despite not being a very wintery varnish. I am always looking for a pink nude shade! The Tom Ford Lips & Boys collection has been taking the beauty industry by …

Review: Mac Face & Body

If you’re a makeup guru or artist, you will already know the absolute essential to any makeup kit is Mac Face and Body. This is the one foundation everyone needs -the staple to your makeup bag. The only Mac foundation I ever buy is Face and Body in N1. For me, there is nothing else like it. It provides a sheer coverage effortlessly, with the ability to build to a medium/full. It is non transferable and made for the face and anywhere on the body. Mac Face and Body is water-based and water resistant for a natural coverage and perfect finish. It is also incredibly easy to blend and fool proof to work with. For a flawless coverage try a damp beauty blender or a flat top kabuki. This base blends into your skin with ease and just looks like skin. It is not cakey or drying. It’s lasting power is also brilliant, it always takes me from morning to night without turning patchy. I use Mac Face and Body almost every day and I always …
