Treats From The Hummingbird Bakery

Whilst in London this week, I made a special trip to South Kensington with the sole intention of picking up cupcakes and tray bakes from The Hummingbird Bakery! The bakery itself was a delightful little café, filled with a variety of gorgeous cakes. I ended up going for two salted caramel cupcakes, a frosted chocolate brownie and a raspberry cheesecake brownie, all of which I had swooned over in my Hummingbird Bakery cookbook last year. Unfortunately, my Dad and I couldn’t wait for me to photograph the tasty treats and ended up sharing a salted caramel cupcake – it was incredible, the perfect combination of salt and caramel! I often find something labelled ‘salted caramel’ super sweet, opposed to having that salted edge however this was perfection. Our high expectations were met when my family and I shared the yummy desserts and we definitely recommend the indulgence! EKD X

Tom Ford Soleil Collection

I vividly remember my first ever experience with Tom Ford… I was around sixteen, and wanted to treat myself to a lipstick. I was a newb in makeup and had recently invested in a blush, tinted moisturiser, perfume, brushes and an eyeshadow quad, all from Chanel. My makeup bag was pretty small but definitely my pride and joy – even at that point. I was in Manchester one Thursday afternoon, and I found myself truly in awe of the Tom Ford counter… Champagne on ice. Hours later I emerged from Selfridges, feeling somewhat transformed. That was the first time my eyebrows had been drawn on, we went for Violet Fatale lipstick, stick foundation and masses of metallic cream eyeshadow. That was also the day I was introduced to the entire concept of ‘contouring.’ I had never felt so glamorous and naturally, I left with more than just a lipstick… Over four years later, I still shop at that very counter and I will only be assisted by that very wonderful makeup artist. #Loyalty When I got …

My Santorini Makeup Look

I was discussing with my friend the other day about outfit and makeup planning… Something I like to do before I drift off into a deep beauty sleep – why is it called that? I usually wake up with a new spot right in the centre of my forehead and an unsightly kink in my hair… When an occasion pops up, be it a London trip, a family dinner or a summer getaway, my makeup look must be premeditated. Since my collection is forever growing, I like to shop my stash and make use of products or add new ones, when I can and so… I have my Santorini makeup look with hues of turquoise and coral! First up, we have my Chanel Les Beige Tinted Moisturiser. I use the shade 010 however I think I will be picking up 020 when I am tanned. I bought this a few months ago and I have used it everyday since – My ten foundations are feeling neglected, I’m sure! – I adore this product, it has …

I Need You, Arthur

I am no stranger to Chanel lipsticks. I do believe Mademoiselle, 05 Rouge Coco was my first ever high-end lipstick, and one that is still a staple in my collection. I adore Chanel for beauty, a reliable and firm favourite, my go-to when I need to add glamour into my afternoon! Last week I picked up Arthur, 440, the first release from the new Rouge Coco collection, launching on March 15th. I am in love. I have never come across such a pigmented, long-lasting and hydrating lipstick, EVER. This is by far my new obsession, I love it! Arthur is an orangey red shade, perfect for Spring/Summer. I pair it with another new launch from the Chanel Spring collection, Capucine, 92 lip liner. I find using a good lip liner with a bold colour will stop it from bleeding and make it even more long-lasting. I’ve had so many compliments when I’ve been wearing Arthur, which has been non-stop this past week! I like to pair it with Tom Ford Cream colour in Platinum on …

Review: Bold Metals Collection

As a lover of Pixiwoo and an owner of almost all the Real Techniques makeup brushes, it was no surprise that I would get my hands on the Bold Metals Collection as soon as I possibly could. Wow… how absolutely stunning are these!? The Bold Metal brushes are a new and permanent collection from Real Techniques, the classic collection isn’t going anywhere, don’t panic! In addition, these are luxury brushes, at a higher price point. They are exclusively available at Boots (UK) and Ulta (US). I have seen many comments about the high price point from a drug store however Nic and Sam have already explained that this is to ensure they become available to everyone around the world. If they were placed in a higher-end retailer, they wouldn’t be as widely available. Another query I have been seeing is ‘surely they get covered in finger prints?!’ I haven’t found them to be bad at all; they still shine and do not look grubby. It doesn’t bother be that they show a few prints, I don’t …

A Rose Gold Indulgence

I find unplanned and spontaneous spending sprees are always the best! I had no intention on buying new straighteners or a hairdryer for that matter, however, when I spied this ghd Rose Gold Deluxe set, I couldn’t not! My typically dull and lifeless locks have recently come into their own, I don’t actually think my hair has ever looked so good. It’s like I woke up one morning and they were twice as long and twice as lush! In order to ensure this miraculous transformation stays strong, I indulged in this ghd set, paddle brush & mirror. I’ve started blow drying my hair section by section with the Air Hairdryer and I can already see a difference in the volume and shine. The ghd Air Hairdryer is professional strength at 2,100 Watt, it has variable power and temperature controls, along with a 3m cable. The set also comes with two concentrator nozzles, perfect to use with the paddle brush. It also looks super glam with the rose gold accents. I find strong hairdryers make such a …

Beautyblender or RT Complexion Sponge?

I much prefer using some form of sponge to apply my foundation than a brush, simply because I feel I end up with a far more seamless result. I do have a dry skin and so brushes can often leave a patchy finish. Typically I will warm up a pump of foundation on my hand before dotting product around my face, I then bounce and blend using a damp sponge. I repeat this process two or three times depending on the level of coverage I want. I find it does take more time than using a brush however two to three thin layers of foundation will always look better than one thick one, plus it will last longer. Once I have pushed my concealer onto the skin with my Nars #12, I always reach for a sponge to mesh both together. The Real Techniques Complexion Sponge is widely available in drug stores and online at a very affordable price point. This sponge is angled with one large flat surface, once soaked in cold water it …

Makeup Removing Essentials

Someone told me a few weeks ago that they always sleep in their makeup, they don’t wash their face nor do they moisturise. I was somewhat horrified and tempted to say ‘I can tell…’ I held my tongue but still couldn’t believe anyone wouldn’t look after their face! I find removing my makeup at the end of the day such a task, however I always do it. Since I hate taking the time to remove eye makeup, I have been on the search for quick and convenient products to make the job easier. My first being the Body Shop Camomile Silky Cleansing Oil. To begin with this smells divine and has an easy to use pump. I find this breaks down even the toughest of eye makeup with ease and isn’t greasy or irritating to the eyes or skin. This is also just £10 which is terribly inexpensive compared to alternatives I have tried previously. The Garnier Micellar Cleansing water is my next step, to remove any remaining makeup, including lipstick. This cleansing water is …

Review: Embryolisse Lait-Crème Concentré

My go-to moisturiser is and I’m pretty sure always will be, Charlotte Tilbury Magic Cream. This is a product seriously worth the hype, I did a review here if you want to know more. Since I did that review, I’ve had some requests for a cheaper alternative since 50ml Magic Cream retails for £70. I have been trying and testing many and I think Embryolisse Lait-Crème Concentré is the closest bet. “Lait-Crème Concentré Nourishing Moisturiser has a creamy milk consistency which leaves a satin veil of moisture on even the driest of skin types and leaves the complexion plumped, smooth and incredibly soft. Signs of dryness and discomfort are eliminated whilst the skin is left beautifully moisturised, nourished and repaired with a revitalised and radiant appearance.” I have found Crème Concentré doesn’t reduce my dry skin as well as Magic Cream however it is a  good dupe. I find it very moisturising with a lovely scent that only lingers for a moment. It melts into your skin effortlessly and it’s creamy constancy is lovely to …

Three Daley Essentials

My first essential, one I cannot live without, is my Anastasia Brow Wiz in medium brown. I think dark and perfect brows are pretty overdone now, sometimes a makeup look does call for strong brows however on a daily basis it just isn’t necessary. To create my natural yet defined brow I always reach for my Brow Wiz, gently feathering hair strokes to imitate my own hairs. I find the perfect shade for me is Medium Brown, it is around 1-2 shades lighter than my hair colour since darker brows and lighter hair can often look a bit much. The Brow Wiz also comes with a great brow brush. My second essential is my favourite beauty product of all time. The Queen of concealers, my Kevyn Aucoin Sensual Skin Enhancer in SXO2. This multi-use product is 18g of heaven. Typical concealers contain 0.5-6g of product, this has 18g and you only need the smallest amount. I’ve had mine over 6 months and not even dinted the top! I use this primarily as a concealer but …
