The Cleansing Step You’re Missing

Not only do we have scrub our entire body so we feel as silky as an Hermes scarf, we should also be exfoliating our scalp?! I put the new IGK Cleansing Walnut Scalp Scrub, £31 to the test to see if we should all be adding this extra step to our cleansing routine. My initial thoughts on this were not great – I wasn’t keen on the scent and I really struggled to get into my scalp with the product to actually give it a scrub. Instead, my hair felt clogged and I couldn’t wait to wash it off. Luckily, I felt full of second chances and gave it another go. I’m still not a fan of the scent however, I do like the cooling effect it gives. I slathered the paste down my parting and thoroughly massaged it into my scalp before going all over my hair with it and since I hadn’t washed my hair in 4 days, it really needed it. Post wash, I went in with my Noughty Blondie Locks Conditioner …

Givenchy Hydra Collection

The new hydrating hits from Givenchy got me deviating from my usual skincare routine to try the bubbly Hydra Sparkling Lotion, £33 and Hydra Sparkling Serum, £55 to see if my skin cravings could be quenched. I can’t lie, my favourite aspect of this collection is the packaging with the infused bubbles but even on my sensitive skin, this hydrating pair worked a treat. Both have a lightweight formula that glides onto the skin leaving a refreshing sensation. The gel texture of both is something I didn’t expect to be keen on however, I really like it! This texture is perfect for the warmer months as it is so refreshing on the skin. The lotion is thin and silky but it is perfumed which is an aspect I really  dislike in skincare. It leaves my skin so smooth and moisturised though and makeup sits well on top. Again, the Serum is perfumed and has the gel consistency. Layered over the lotion, my skin is cooled and as a result, feels plump and hydrated. My face visibly …

GLD

It’s day 3 post hair wash and I’m swiping on layers of Rodin lipstick in the hopes that no one will notice. I curl my eye lashes up to the sky and begin to coat them with Glossier Lash Slick, £14 for the first time – within moments I can tell it’s going to be my greatest lash day ever. When it comes to getting ready in the morning, I can usually tell fairly early on whether it’s going to be a good hair day or whether my makeup is going to be on point but rarely do I even consider my lashes… They’re short and lifeless and even with a curl and lashings of mascara, they still disappoint. Glossier Lash Slick is a mascara I never knew I wanted. It enhances my own lashes and gives me flexible length, separation and flutter with absolute ease and yet they just look like I’m having a good lash day. Housed in the predictably pink packaging and delivered in the handy glossier pouch, this mascara looks wonderful both …

Ready For This Jelly

When it comes to my caring for my skin, I’m finding my 6-step skincare routine isn’t cutting it. Just like a hot bubble bath at the end of a long day, my face also needs to de-stress and so the Kiehls Calendula & Aloe Soothing Hydrating Masque, £44 has become my bi-weekly nightcap. Twice a week, after a pre and double cleanse, I slather the yellow jelly all over my face and neck and I try to make a real effort to r e l a x. It feels lightweight on the skin and I find the cooling effect seriously refreshing, especially after the humid heat we’re feeling at the moment. Face masks have previously been sectioned into two categories in my mind – 1. A sloppy green paste housed in a sachet, the kind you’d buy from Superdrug for a £1 and resembles a Herbal Essences ad or 2. A drying charcoal masque which sucks the impurities and life out of your skin. Obviously, I’m now more informed and aware of the huge variety …

Boldly Bare

Who says you have to go all out to be knockout? From sheer foundations to beautifully enhanced brows and soft balmy lips, take your makeup bare to feel bold this summer. The standout trend from S/S18 was to bare it all and I am so here for it! From flawless filtered Charlotte Tilbury skin to Glossier ‘I just woke up like this‘ vibes, I am ready to go sheer and glossy in the hopes that I too, will look somewhat like Gigi Hadid. Boy Brow recently changed my life, framed my face and ensured I would receive kudos from commuters. Stroked upwards, my brows appear bushy and ready for anything – What more do I need? Thanks Glossier. Dior Lip Glow has been rolling around in the bottom of my handbag for years but now my cult favourite is available in 9 hydrating shades. When I’m not swiping on 001, I’m rubbing Lanolips Lemonade into my chapped pout as it’s the perfect primer to prep for lipstick. I’m in a casual relationship with the IT …

Won’t You Take Me To Flavourtown

Sometimes I think I should’ve been named Emily Cake instead of Emily Kate for the simple reason that I am a cake connoisseur. Is there really anything more disappointing that dry cake? Or grainy icing? Or tasteless sponge? NO, there is not. And so, I went on the hunt for the best cake in town and I actually found it, at Flavourtown Bakery in Fulham. The vanilla rainbow cake, to be exact and what a dream it is. Moist, fluffy and decadent, the cake at FT is so addictively good that my friend and I did a drive-by at 9am to satisfy cake cravings for breakfast – it was so worth it! EKD X

Bluebell’s Holiday

Puppy Bluebell is the cream to our cookie, the icing to our cake and the cheese to our pizza. Ok, I don’t know why they all become food related but I don’t think Bubby would mind. Recently, we took Bluebell on holiday and being the queen that she is, insisted on having her photo everywhere she went and so here is our wiggle bum spaniel soaking up the Whitby life. X EKD

The Perfect Sunday

Since moving down to London, my favourite Sundays have been spent in Richmond, at Petersham Nurseries. This is mostly due to the spectacular curated spaces they have which inspire me to buy plants instead of lipstick and partly because it makes me forget I am in central London – which is exactly what one needs after a week of running on the hamster wheel. My friend introduced me to Petersham Nurseries and I know for a fact I would never have discovered it on my own. Their coffee, croissants and brownies hit that mid morning spot and the innovative decor makes me feel like I’ve stepped into Alice’s wonderland! EKD X

My Beauty Secrets

It was August 2014 when I bought my very first jar of Charlotte Tilbury Magic Cream. A pop-up counter had just arrived in Selfridges Manchester and I was absolutely desperate to try the mystical potion of wonder for myself. 3 years on and countless different creams later, I find myself right back where I started – infatuated with Magic Cream. From Embryolisse Lait-Crème Concentré to Clarins HydraQuench and Kiehls Ultra Face Cream, nothing compares to CT MC, despite all my eager efforts. My secret to beautiful skin is a thorough skincare routine; this sumptuous crème has a light and illuminating formula like no other and instantly hydrates my lacklustre complexion. Magic Cream exudes a decadent rose aroma that is delicately feminine and as the glamorous jar resides on my vanity, I can’t help but think that this cream will always be worth its mighty £70 price tag. As I discussed here, I love using cream products especially in the summer because they create such a radiant and skin-like finish. Thus, when I spied the Nars Orgasm …

Fun and Fearless

It was July 2011, I was 16 and Rihanna was the only girl in the world finding love in a hopeless place. I had just bought my first Cosmopolitan magazine and if I remember correctly, neon tribal patterns were rife in River Island. In the editor’s letter of August 2011, Louise Court wrote that ‘Cosmo’s mantra is all about helping women get the most out of life’ – between that and noticing FOR FUN FEARLESS FEMALES printed along the magazine spine, I was hooked and consequently added a new issue to my shelf every month. Whether it be beauty, style or career advice, the Cosmopolitan empire has me covered and lately I’ve been turning to cosmopolitan.co.uk for some late night reading –  check this out by the way, Laura Capon always makes me LOL! To this day, the editor’s letter is still the page I look forward to reading as it always inspires me and this month is no exception. The August 2017 issue is such a good read and this time, Farrah Storr details her own …

Midnight in Florence

Giggling, I swayed down the cobbled path clutching onto the corner of my purple pleated skirt as we meandered down the dreamy streets of Florence. It was about 12.05am and the Duomo was in sight; with each swinging stride, my gold Gucci shoes twinkled in the Italian moonlight. A few hours previous we happened upon an angelic bistro where we ate steak and drank lashing of red wine over candlelight – my first ever glass in fact. We only arrived in Florence that morning and between a visit to the Gucci Museo and the most delightful scoop of chocolate mousse gelato, I was utterly entranced. As we ran around the Tuscan capital, I eagerly photographed the views and then we arrived at the Duomo… In absolute awe, I FaceTimed my family because I just had to show them what I was looking at in that very moment. Fortunately, just 3 days after my return my Mum booked a family trip to Florence and so I don’t have to wait too long to be reunited with chocolate …

Chantecaille Summer Must-Haves

When it comes to summer makeup, I prefer to use cream products instead of powders, mainly because I don’t want a really heavy look but also because creams create a natural radiance which feels weightless on the skin. The Chantecaille Radiance Gel Bronzer is my summer must-have as it blends so seamlessly with a brush or fingers and provides a long-lasting beach glow like no other; I’ve used it every day for the past few weeks and I adore it. This gel bronzer is ultra-moisturising and adds a natural luminosity to the complexion, ideal for those beachy days. Initially, I combine a small amount of the gel with my primer to create a sheer tanned base then after applying my foundation, I blend it across my cheeks and over the highpoints of the face to create a sun-kissed glow. It’s such a lightweight product that surpasses any of my other cream bronzers; since the gel consistency is like an additional layer of skincare, it gives you that no-makeup makeup look we all love. Now, you …

A Guide to Networking

I know the prospect of networking can sometimes make us (ok, me) sweat nervously on our upper lip however, the saying is true… It really is all about who you know. As intimidating as it might be, putting yourself out there and meeting new people is a brave move we should all be making. Perhaps you’re just starting out fresh from University like myself or maybe you’re thinking about switching careers or perhaps you want to expand your business; learning to navigate a networking event will help to reduce the SULA and ultimately increase career confidence. We need to push out of our comfort zones and get used to feeling uncomfortable because that is when the good stuff will start to happen! From attending the Cosmopolitan Self Made Summit, I have pages of notes all about the art of networking and so I thought I would share the key takeaways: 1. Don’t be afraid It’s totally okay to attend a networking event alone! Introduce yourself and find some common ground, the first few minutes are …

Makeup Worth The Money

Before I indulge in a makeup purchase, I typically search the internet to see if it really is worth the dollar. Some products excel in quantity by providing great value for money and some (Tom Ford) will always be worth the splurge because the shade, consistency or packaging just can’t be beaten. I have a drawer filled with disappointing products that just didn’t work for me and so today, I’m talking about what’s actually worth the money! As you can see from the photos, each of these products have been well loved in my makeup drawers for over a year thus, my opinion is an informed one. Tom Ford Blush First on my list is the Tom Ford Cheek Colour in Ravish – I did a full post about this last year if you want a more detailed review. TF blushes contain 8g, which is amazing and the powder has a buttery consistency that blends into the makeup effortlessly. Not only is Ravish a really versatile shade that compliments a nude or red lip, it also …

Thinking About Studying at The Open University?

I never thought I would be 16 and out of education, but I was and I had absolutely no idea what I was going to do. Luckily, my Dad had an idea and within 2 days he had preliminary enrolled me at The Open University. Due to my age paperwork was sent out for my family and I to sign and within a few short weeks I turned 17.  It was May 2012, I had no A-Levels and yet I was about to begin a BA (Hons) Business degree. As I recall, I was extremely excited, despite not having a clue. The OU is fantastic if you change your mind. After my first year studying Business, I found myself wanting to study English. I put in a request, filled out more paper work and my degree was changed to BA (Hons) Open Degree, which enabled my year of Business to still count towards my qualification. This choice gave me the ability to pick and choose any module from their offering; from beginners French to intermediate Health …

The Cosmopolitan Self Made Summit and Leaving My Comfort Zone

For the past 5 years, you would’ve found me slouched at my desk with uni books sprawled across the floor, as I endeavoured to study for my English Open University degree… Studying from home in my pyjamas has been my comfort zone for so many years that recently, I’ve began thinking about my next steps and posing questions like, where am I going to live? How am I going to manage? and, will anyone actually hire me? With all that came the ultimate panic most soon-to-be-graduates feel when they arrive at the last few weeks of education and start to contemplate leaving the assured zone of comfort. My impending freedom almost feels too daunting to celebrate as the overwhelming panic of essay stress is beginning to evolve into the anxiety of actually building a life. This is when I found myself on Eventbrite, investing in my future by paying £50 for a ticket to attend the Cosmopolitan Self Made Summit, which described itself as ‘the event that will change your life.’ I attended the Summit last month …

EKD Turns Three

As I fumble through BlogSpot haphazardly trying to understand how to insert a picture, I can’t help but wonder who will actually read this website. Skimming through my camera roll, I search for a photo to head the post and end up going for a cliché picture I took whilst in Starbucks two mornings previous. I remember the buzz of anticipation I felt when I sent that first post live; it was poorly written and the accompanying image was poorly lit, but I had started EKD and that is when I experienced the thrill of creating and publishing my writing for the very first time. That was May 10th 2014. As EKD turns one year older, I got thinking about the last 3 and how emilykatedale.com has progressed. My namesake site is something I am truly proud of, I put my all into each and every post… My September Issue articles are the most challenging to compose, ‘Investing in Fashion?’ is my favourite to read and surprisingly, my most viewed post of all time and one that still …

A #chicvibesonly Graduation Gift From Links of London

As I write my final university assignment I find myself almost giddy with anticipation about finally graduating. I can’t help but wonder what shoes I should wear or which Tom Ford lipstick goes with a graduation gown… Although, with the distress of finding the perfect dress comes the indulgence of picking out a graduation gift. Naturally, I wanted to choose something that will last a lifetime seeing as that’s how long my degree seemed to take… Therefore, I began considering jewellery and that’s when the redefined Links of London Sweetie Bracelet became my new #chicvibesonly accessory.  What I love most about this bracelet is that it can be personalised, which was the kind of distinctive attribute I was looking for. When it came to designing my Sweetie, I took to their online ‘bracelet builder,’ which allows you to choose from a huge selection of charms and rings to create and visualise your bracelet. I instantly added gold-tone rings, since I like to wear both gold and silver jewellery. As I scrolled through the various charms available, I was …

A Note on Personal Style

Over the past few weeks, I couldn’t help but pose a question of personal style. What makes an authentic personal style? Wearing three new-in pieces from Zara, is that personal style? Is imitating your favourite fashion blogger who wore flatforms with a red blazer and leather pants whilst posing down a whimsical Kensington street… is that personal style? To me, personal style is creating outfits that you love, that you put together from your own vision whilst you were ironing your bedding on a Sunday afternoon, watching Sex and The City reruns… Perhaps it’s inspired by your favourite designers but ultimately, you wear exactly what you want to wear and with any luck, something that makes you feel remarkable. I’ve never been happy with my style, I might have had a cute bag and shoes but the clothes part was never that great. In recent times, I’ve began to truly ascertain my own personal aesthetic and as a result my style has developed tremendously. Not only has my confidence grown but I feel more like …

A Day in Milan

April 1st 15:10 A car has just picked me up from home to take me to Manchester Airport. I’m flying at 18:30 from Terminal 3. Feeling so excited, slightly anxious and awfully travel sick…. 18:20 I am FINALLY on the flight. An emergency evacuation from the terminal was not part of the plan but amplified my anxiety tremendously… Annoyingly but fortunately, it was a false alarm. I’m seated in 2F – window seat with leg room. Still feeling travel sick and now, overwhelmingly sleepy. 19:15 I’m listening to Harry Potter and the Order of the Phoenix and while we chase the sunset to Milan, Italy I can’t help but wonder what this trip will bring. I am so excited. 23:04 I’m walking towards Milano Centrale, it’s dark and raining… Ella is running towards me, large green umbrella in hand. I couldn’t be happier.  23:49 We stopped for some pizza and have now arrived at our hotel. Buonanotte I planned my outfits before I packed and so for our day in Milan I wore an oversized mens …

Feelin’ 22

It’s Wednesday 22nd March and it’s my 22nd Birthday next week. I’ve had to stop writing and search out Taylor Swifts’ album Red, so I can write about feeling twenty-two whilst singing 22. Whilst planning a Birthday dinner at my favourite restaurant, it occurred to me that no respectable party was without invites and so I turned to my go-to stationary site Papier and found the invitations my chic vibes only status would approve of – naturally this included a yellow striped envelope because yellow really is the colour of the season, if you didn’t already know. For a whole host of reasons, my birthday this year feels so much more than it has ever done previously. After a Dior filled 21st, I didn’t think I could top it so soon however, with new season Gucci vibes, an Italian adventure and the dinner party of my dreams with some truly fab friends – Feelin’ 22 has never felt better.   X EKD

Life is Gucci

Yes, I bought the gold Gucci shoes of my dreams and yes my life has never been better. I am writing this a week in advance as said shoes have been sat in my bedroom waiting to be worn and adored for just under a month now and my anticipation is eagerly mounting. However, as you’re reading this it’s actually my 22nd Birthday! SO, I purchased them online from Farfetch and they were delivered from Italy within two days. I have used Farfetch to purchase numerous luxury accessories and I always find their service and product selection to be pretty good. My Gucci Marmonts were beautifully wrapped in a Gucci box and came with two cream silk dust bags, perfect for travelling. They’re leather soled and fit like a glove however, I had previously tried the heeled pair on and so I knew I needed a size down as Gucci fits big. I take these in a 38 but I am typically a 39 in my other shoes like Tods, Lanvin or Louboutin. Also, they are …

Mascara Vibes #VolumeShake

After receiving the new Rimmel Volume Shake Mascara*, I thought I would give it a whirl as I am on the market for a new mascara anyway. When the press release read ‘no clumps,’ I was immediately captivated and after trying it out for a few days I actually really like it! The brush is a good size with bristles that actually get into the root of the lashes, coating each lash effectively. I did find it added good length and volume, it also doesn’t flake or smudge throughout the day and is easy to remove with cleansing oil. This new launch from Rimmel features the first-to-market patented shaker system that refreshes the volumizing formula, so we can all say goodbye to mascara that dries out and looses its oomph! Now, I am not sure how well this will actually work – I feel like I’d need a month or two to see if I notice a difference however, it is definitely a welcomed addition to a mascara. I found it really easy to apply and the …

Tom Ford Gives Me LIFE

There will always be something about Tom Ford that I simply can’t resist… From falling in love at 16, I’ve been in a committed relationship ever since. There is no other beauty brand that I love as much as TF; from the Gold Dust bronzing powder to the Noir de Noir Private Blend fragrance, they get it right every time. Lately I have been loving using my Traceless Foundation Stick, the best foundation I have ever bought and that is definitely saying something, as my collection currently houses over 12 different foundations. The coverage and longevity is insane and after applying my skin looks glowy and radiant. If I have an event, party or simply want to feel my sassy self on a Wednesday morning, I will always reach for my TF Stick as it blends effortlessly and is so easy to carry in my bag throughout the day for quick touch-ups. I feel like I’ve been banging on about how incredible Tom Ford products are since I began EKD in 2014, but it’s something you just …

Travel Essentials

On December 31st 2016 I wrote that I was determined to travel through Italy in 2017 and I have definitely lived up to that personal goal as I fly to Milan next month. As my best friend and I prepare our action packed itinerary, I anticipate five days of adventure and so I couldn’t help but wonder what EKD necessities I would need to pack. The first is an essential to anyone – international traveller or not! A power bank and charging cable…. This should always be in your bag to avoid running out of battery, there is nothing more frustrating than holding on to 3%. The second is my travel companion of choice, the Louis Vuitton City Guide – the ultimate manual for chic destinations and Gelato hotspots. A Nikon DSLR camera is obviously going to join me on my adventures, I can’t go to Galleria Vittorio Emanuele without getting some super chic photographs! My Tom Ford perfume makes me feel like myself and so my Travalo just has to come with me to Italy, …

V Day in 200 Words

My friends thought I was kidding when I jested that I’d be spending Valentines alone with my cats… It’s become a sort of tradition for me to be hunched uncomfortably over my university textbooks for the duration of ‘New Michael Kors watch from my boy!’ and Lucky girl hashtags. Although, this time last year I had just bought my Dior bag yesterday and was working all day today. I remember I didn’t mind at all because who needs love when you have a Lady? My lips aren’t red; my nails aren’t either however; I have reached the point where I need a manicure more than I need £20. I also have no intention of watching P.S I Love You, which I actually never liked anyway. But, at the risk of feeling lonely I did do a last minute Charbonnel order, you know just so I have something to spend V day with. For fear of working too hard on my grammar essay (never going to happen), I’m going to begin mapping my heart because I do …

Acne Studios: The Canada Scarf

I couldn’t help but wonder what my most worn piece in my wardrobe is and after much consideration, I decided upon my Acne Studios Canada scarves. I currently have two and intend on acquiring more colours in the near future. Not only are they pure Italian quality, they’re basically a blanket luxuriously disguised as a scarf. They compliment my tiresome commute impeccably, and make it even easier for me to tilt my head comfortably whilst I snooze ungracefully on the train at 7.42am. Composed of 100% wool, a Canada scarf is an Acne Studios staple and will keep you warm in oversized style, flattering any coat or cosy knit.  I reach for mine everyday and find the understated and simplistic vibe of Acne to be my preferred one at present. As I build my accessory collection, I find myself choosing pieces that I not only adore but that will always frame my wardrobe effortlessly. My Canada scarves are my go-to and a piece I would warmly recommend investing in. #chicvibesonly   EKD X

Thoughts on the Large Lady Dior

I actually shocked myself when I sat down to write this and realised I bought my Lady Dior bag a year ago this month. Granted, it sat in my room unopened for another six weeks until my 21st Birthday, but still! It’s been exactly twelve months since I made my greatest and most anticipated purchase! So, is it worth the money? Absolutely. Each size of the Lady has increased substantially in price since I purchased mine, I paid £2750 in February 2016. The Large currently retails for £3200, look how much bag you are getting for your buck though… in comparison, a large classic Chanel bag is now £4830. From an investment point of view, after one year my bag still looks brand new and I have confidence that if I were ever to sell it (like I would haha) I would definitely get my money back, which is a comforting thought when paying a significant amount of money for a bag. Yearly Dior price increases and Brexit have affected the escalation but, would I buy …

Investing in Fashion?

Today, I couldn’t help but wonder when one should step aside from investing in classic staples and start buying into trend driven fashion. I have always tried to make sensible purchases; by that I mean luxury items that will never go out of style, like my Lady Dior or Chanel slingbacks for example. However, when one becomes infatuated with gold shoes, one arrives at a significant dilemma… My collection has only grown with time as it takes a while to save for these things so, I continually aim for timeless pieces to ensure they are a lifetime style investment. Thus, I’ve ended up with an array of wallets, handbags, shoes and scarves, all of which are wearable and chic pieces which elevate any outfit year after year. That being said, in recent times it would seem seasonal statements are the real indication of stylishness and who are you if you don’t have new season Gucci vibes? Be it a Chloe Faye, Dior So Real’s or Gianvito Rossi Calabria courts, trends are becoming the new timeless …

Who Likes Change Anyway?

When I consider the prospect of change, my abrupt reaction has always been, “oh no! I don’t like change!” However, the past year has been filled with change – the majority of which has been pretty wonderful… This got me thinking about the changes which are coming in the upcoming months and after dwelling far too deeply, I found myself tearful on platform 3 of Piccadilly train station. Lovely… Basically, my best friend is relocating to live her Italian dream – I couldn’t be happier for you bella! But life won’t be the same without you. I also finish my degree in 4 months’ time. My five-year endeavor is coming to an end, thank goodness. However, will I relish in the accomplishment? Or crumble trying to hustle and see first hand if one really can have it all? Oh and my sister is getting married! The most anticipated event in the family calendar to date is rapidly approaching – Soon, my sister will no longer be a Miss E Dale. I guess the advantage of having your best friend located …

All The Vibes of 2016

I’d like to think that with every passing year, EKD is all the wiser and this year, I actually feel I am. Well when I say wiser, perhaps I mean happier? or content? or maybe this is just how one feels when the notion Gucci is life is finally realised? This year, I began to feel like myself – Yes I know, what a peculiar idea. But it’s true, I’ve never felt more like myself than I do now and I believe this has somewhat contributed to the overall success of my 21st year. I spent too much time on trains this year however, I refined the art of clutching my handbag in my lap whilst snoozing ungracefully on a 7am commute. I also ate more Italian food than ever and found myself eagerly planning all the trips I intend to take in 2017. My list is as follows (in no particular order) Rome, Florence, Milan and Paris. This list, which is constantly being added to, will be completed by next Christmas and I can’t …

A Devoted Miss Dior

It is no secret that Christian Dior stole my heart in 2016 with just about everything! From the Lady Dior I always dreamed of carrying, to the shoes I shall wear to my sisters wedding… I really have been the luckiest gal this year and a devoted Miss Dior. I recall the moment quite vividly; I was on a break at work when my sister called. Elle was in Paris on a surprise birthday trip… I had to tell her I only had a few minutes and she had to tell me that she got engaged the day before. I was oh so happy for them! But the biggest question we both had was, what shoes will we wear?! We both chuckled and whilst Elle recounted her magical Parisian moment, I grinned so much it hurt and then went back to work. That was eighteen months ago. Six months ago, after endlessly searching through Net-A-Porter, Jimmy Choo, the Manolo Blahnik store in Burlington Arcade and refreshing Roger Vivier on Luisaviaroma, I found the perfect shoes, new …

The September Issue ’16

“Picture perfect sexiness now feels boring” – An assertion of wonderful significance I just had to jot down from British Vogue and share with you as they welcome The New SASS! “…A modern word for opinionated sexiness” and I am obsessed! Sass is in and so are grungy florals paired with a polished VB boot – take your sass to the streets and feel yourself gals, because just like that, it is Autumn again and I find myself eagerly flicking through September Vogue to gleefully absorb this year’s trends, brands to watch, IT girls and newly launched beauty products I just have to try. As Fashion month has come to a close I am back again to divulge the takeaways from this year’s September Issue and reveal the must read articles, latest investment pieces and the unsubtle building blocks you need for your autumn wardrobe. As a fashion aficionada, I find the September Issue a collection of intoxicating and complex style, full of expression and #chicvibesonly and as it happens, last years’ article is probably my …

Be Dior & Sumptuous Style

I’ve definitely drifted from brand to brand over the years, from flicking through Vogue to scrolling through Net-A-Porter’s ‘New in’ page, I have lusted after many a trend however, my client loyalty has been with the classics, Vuitton and Chanel. As you know, this year that all changed when I became infatuated with Dior, all of which can be read about here and here. Thus it was a no brainer when I began a new job back in May, that I would purchase a new bag in honour of moving forward and leaving the last five years behind me. Christian Dior was an obvious avenue to pursue as a new season bag was already on my radar and luckily, already on hold in the name of EKD. I remember when I bought my first luxury handbag, I believe it was November 2011 and my sister Elle accompanied me to Selfridges to make my greatly anticipated purchase. I was 16 and I picked up the bag I had always wanted, a Louis Vuitton Speedy 40 in Monogram …

My Burberry

It’s no secret that I am all about those Burberry vibes! So when it came to choosing a reward from work, I excitedly jumped at the opportunity to pick the My Burberry fragrance. Grinning wickedly, I spritzed it eager to relish in the aroma and as anticipated, it instantly evoked happy memories of my favourite Regent Street destination, Thomas’s. My Burberry is not a typical choice for me as I am a Tom Ford Private Blend gal however, this is the scent of Burberry Regent Street and a reminder of many happy London days, therefore I am so pleased and proud to add it to my collection. Coincidently, I had just ordered a Burberry Beauty lipstick from the Full Kisses range – Light Crimson No.517, a beautiful coral pink shade I have been trying to locate after spying in the Covent Garden store back in April. The complimentary next day delivery and gift wrap service is the greatest I have come across, just look at that beautiful packaging!  “My Burberry is a joyful scent that …

#ChicVibesOnly

Last weekend was spent in Cambridge and London, wedding planning with my sister and picking up macarons from my favourite Parisian patisseries. Elle and I discussed my blog and neither of us could believe that it has only been two years since it all began. Something we both agreed on though, was how much we love EKD and the pride we share in what I’ve created. I feel like even though my style and aesthetic has evolved over the last two years, my fascination with elegance, fashion and beauty has only increased. Celebrating with gorgeous pieces from the SS16 Tom Ford Beauty collection and macarons from Pierre Hermé and Ladurée, I look forward to the future of EKD. Today is May 10th – Two years ago I began my .blogspot and fell in love with creating colourful and creative content. Between the move to WordPress, font changes and improved photography lighting, it’s still Emily living in Derbyshire and studying English, eager to become the next Carrie Bradshaw. Thank you for tuning in – I’m excited to create new content and share #ChicVibesOnly! …

Christian Dior Diorissimo Wallet

After using my Lady Dior with my Louis Vuitton Insolite wallet, I decided it was just too big and bulky for the bag. It’s such a great wallet, it wears amazingly well and is perfect for everyday however, I don’t feel it’s suited to the Lady Dior. I wanted something smaller, delicate and black. This led me to my Christian Dior boutique once again, to go through as many Dior wallets as I could to find ‘the one.’  I ended up going for the Medium “Diorissimo” Voyageur wallet in black calf leather and contrasting Rose Indien interior with champagne gold hardware. I wanted something smaller than my LV, and so this medium size is perfect! It’s made from an absolutely beautiful textured calf leather and so will resist scratches from the zip of the Lady Dior. It houses eight card slots, a zipped coin compartment and an interior middle pocket. It also comes with the detachable Dior charm for added elegance. I absolutely adore this wallet, it’s a beautiful and convenient size without being too small. …

Tom Ford Ravish Cheek Colour

I’m going to go right out and say it – Tom Ford is my favourite makeup brand of all time. There – I said it, and I meant it. I adore Tom Ford, always have and always will. Unfortunately, I’ve not come across much that can compete on Tom’s level… From the dreamy packaging, exceptional product quality and outstanding customer service, Tom Ford wins and today, TF is winning with my new favourite Cheek Colour – Ravish. I picked this up a few months ago and have been addicted ever since. I find the quality of Tom Ford powder products – whether that be a bronzer, highlight or blush – to be amazing. They’re buttery smooth and blend seamlessly, with amazing colour payoff and longevity – What else could you possibly want? Ravish is amazing paired with a nude or red lip and that diversity is something I look for when choosing my everyday makeup bag products. I would say Ravish is a rich pink with red undertones and slight shimmer. It looks bold in …

The House of Christian Dior

When I think of Christian Dior Couture, I think of elegance, romance and beautiful silhouettes. I picture gorgeous tailoring, Paris and Princess Diana. I envision the lady boss that is Charlize Theron and the delicacy of Natalie Portman in a Miss Dior couture gown. I think of 30, Avenue Montaigne and I also consider the man himself, the couturier – the founder of the House of Christian Dior. Now, I think it’s about time I address my obscene fascination with one of the worlds greatest fashion houses. I fell madly in love with Dior after spending a serendipitous afternoon admiring everything from ballerina flats to lilac silk scarves, back in January 2016. I remember previously visiting the very same boutique back when I was 16 and discovering luxury fashion for the first time. It was just as magical now as it was back then. I have found the associates in Dior to be second to non. From New Bond Street to Dubai, I have never had such incredible customer service. The way my SA understands my …

A Luminous Base From Guerlain

Late last year I spent a wonderful afternoon with Guerlain, trying out all their products both new and old. I picked up a whole array of makeup but there were three standouts, all of which are base products! I have been using these constantly since October, so I feel I can give a thorough and tested review. Firstly, let me say the service and product quality at Guerlain is exceptional, I loved everything I tried and I really admire the subtlety and elegance of the brand. The item I have used the most and sadly almost ran out of, is the Météorites Oxygen Care Moisturiser & Radiance Booster. This moisturiser has a smoothing and radiant effect on the skin and really illuminates the complexion. I use this as a pre-makeup base and find it really makes a difference in the luminosity and hydration of my makeup throughout the day. It has a pearlescent glow and carries the signature delicate violet scent, but nothing lingering or offensive. I have been addicted to using this, thus why I only …

21

On Thursday 31st March, I celebrated my 21st Birthday. Who am I kidding? I celebrated my birthday for about three weeks, and it was utterly wonderful. The preparations began back in January, when I went scouting for my gift, the gift I would buy for myself and one that was fitting for a 21st. I initially wandered into Chanel, thinking an iconic Double Flap would be my bag of choice, as I have lusted after one for 10 years. However, I didn’t have the princess moment I was hoping for and swiftly drifted in and then out again of Saint Laurent, again with disappointment. Surprised at my lack of interest thus far yet still eager as ever, I found myself seated elegantly in Christian Dior, supping champagne (something I never usually do!) and admiring a Lady. It was exactly a month later that I purchased my large Lady Dior bag in black lambskin with gold-tone hardware. I felt like Princess Diana and it was romantic and magical… exactly how I imagined and hoped it would …

Rad T-Shirts

Despite the fact that I aim for #chicvibes when I get dressed in the morning, somedays I do just want to throw on my 501’s and be casually comfortable, this is when I search out a great tee. I have linen t-shirts from Zara that I adore and navy tees from Whistles which are probably the most flattering t-shirts ever! However, a sassy slogan t-shirt is such a cute addition to anyones wardrobe, my favourites are from Rad.  Rad t-shirts are 100% cotton and they offer both casual and slim fit options, not to mention a whole array of innovative and sassy slogans. They fit well, wash well and are perfect to wear through the summer months with sneakers and jean shorts! I would never usually gravitate towards slogan tee’s for myself however, these two from Rad are so me, I just had to pick them up! What are your thoughts on slogan t-shirts? Are you with me and dressing for comfort?   EKD X

Mac Retro Matte Liquid Lipsticks

Back in January, after observing the huge trend of matte liquid lipsticks for long enough, I decided to get up to speed and order the latest release – Mac Retro Matte Liquid Lipcolour. I picked up two shades, a peachy nude, Back In Vogue and a rich cranberry red, Dance With Me. My initial thoughts were really positive… I don’t mind the packaging – I find it pretty standard for Mac, the shade range is also good and the price point is OK at £21 each. I first swatched each shade on my wrist to see what the colouring and texture was like. I was impressed on first swatch as both were very pigmented, smooth and opaque which is what I would look for in a liquid lipstick. I then went to try them on the lips, both applied with ease although I would recommend using a lip liner to ensure absolute precision as once they dry, they really set. I would describe the formula as a creamy mousse and the applicator felt smooth and easy to navigate. They don’t …

Hourglass Ambient Strobe Light

I’ve been counting down the days until the Hourglass Strobing powders would become available and the anticipation was SO worth it. They are truly stunning, I picked up Iridescent Light and intend on ordering more. I was already a fan of Hourglass products and I believe they’re Ambient Lighting range to be outstandingly good however, these powders take that to another level. They are finely milled, sheer and oh so blendable, not to mention the gorgeous and iconic packaging… The Strobe Lighting powders have been released in four shades, ranging from pink to yellow undertones, each giving a unique luminosity. I went for Iridescent Light which is a sheer pink pearl shade, because it’s unlike any other illuminating powder in my collection. I typically gravitate towards pigmented golden highlights such as Becca Champagne Pop however, these are completely different. A ‘strobe’ powder is the perfect name for these, after swatching a few highlighters it is clear that ‘highlighter’ would be too strong of a name. The Hourglass Strobe Lighting powders add such a gorgeous ‘lit from …

London Vibes

I’m trying to make myself fall more in love with London, to make the prospect of moving more bearable and actually exciting. I plan to move for work however when it comes down to it, the thought of leaving my countryside upbringing and gorgeous home free from traffic noise, is slightly daunting. Don’t get me wrong I’m sure I will love it, LDN vibes inspire me! But change is change and if I’m honest, it’s always made me slightly nervous… I’ve gone through photographs from last year and collated my faves from Regent Street to hydrangeas! What’s your favourite thing about London? EKD X

Burberry Beauty

I have been meaning to do a write up of my makeup pieces from Burberry Beauty for so long and luckily it was requested last week by the lovely Eva. I know you’ve heard me bang on about how much I love the Earthy blusher (here), but there are a few other products I am obsessed with too. In addition to that, I also have a few items I’ve been lusting after, so I’ll share my Burberry wish list with you too! Starting with lipsticks, the first I bought was Nude Beige No.01 from the Burberry Kisses collection. I picked this up the week they were released after seeing Lily Pebbles use it after attending a Burberry Beauty event. It looks very nude in the swatch however it is slightly sheer but also still very build-able. I find it looks stunning patted into the lips over lip balm. It’s pretty long lasting, balmy and hydrating and I love the sheer yet pigmented finish. I often keep this in my handbag, so the packaging is pretty scratched! After falling in …

Chanel Les Beiges Healthy Glow Foundation

I was lucky enough to be invited to a Chanel event last week, for a presentation of the new Chanel Les Beiges Healthy Glow Foundation. Initially, I wasn’t a hundred percent sure as it is a semi-matte formula however, after trying it at the event I am hooked. Starting with the packaging, Chanel have gone back to their roots with a frosted glass bottle, it feels luxury and it looks stunning. It also comes with a pump… massive brownie points! The consistency reminds me of the Les Beiges Fluid, just slightly creamier and it has SPF 25. There is also a delicate scent, it’s very fresh and pleasing and doesn’t linger. As per usual, the shade range is not great, there are only 9 shades in the Healthy Glow however, 020 is a perfect colour match for me. For reference, I am N1 in Mac Face and Body, 010 in Dior Star, 02 in Guerlain Lingerie de Peau and Mont Blanc in Nars Sheer Glow. I typically apply my base with a damp beautyblender however, I have been reaching for my …

Radiant Winter Makeup

Despite the fact it’s January, I have still been reaching for my summer faves, to brighten up my makeup look and add some much needed warmth and glow to my complexion. I find using a glowy primer is the best first step in achieving summer skin and I like to use the Dior Glow Maximizer, but the Becca Shimmering Skin Perfector liquids or the Charlotte Tilbury Wonderglow work just the same. I first take a small amount on the tops of my cheekbones and then mix a pump into my base, this way your foundation becomes more radiant and your highlight looks from within. A cream bronzing base is everything when it comes to adding natural warmth to the skin and I love the Chanel Soliel de Tan, but I am also dying to try the YSL Le Teint Saharienne, which seems to work in a similar way. I first work a small amount on to the back of my hand to warm it up and then use an Artis Oval 6 to buff it …

Prime Like A Man

I am definitely up to try anything, especially if that anything promises to keep my foundation looking perfect all day. I’ve seen the Nivea Men Aftershave Balm all over beauty blogs recently, specifically the wonderful NikkieTutorials and so I decided to put it to the test myself. The balm does come with a manly scent however it doesn’t linger long and I don’t mind it. I followed Nikkie’s method when applying and massaged a small amount into my face with my fingers until it went tacky and then went in with my foundation. The second greatest ingredient in Nivea Men Aftershave Balm is Glycerin, which makes products stick to each other, thus making your foundation last. I found my foundation went on well and the balm didn’t interfere with my makeup. My foundation lasted really well through the day, although it doesn’t typically slip and slide, I did feel it improved the longevity. My makeup stayed looking fresh so perhaps we should all prime like a man more often? EKD X

The Vogue Wall

When we moved into our home back in the summer of 2000, I was only five years old and so the theme I chose when decorating was princess fairyland. Thus why I have fairies tip-toeing along my boarder and princess roses climbing my bespoke curtains. I decided not to change the walls due to the love I had for it as a child and I actually adore that I’m growing and evolving in the same room that I kept a diary for the first time, which lead to my passion for writing and the room I first played with makeup… I do believe I borrowed rather a lot of Estée Lauder and Dior from my Mum. In September 2011 I purchased Elle magazine for the first time, Kirsten Dunst was the cover and I read the whole thing. Later that month I picked up various other magazines and on one evening in September, I stuck the pages of Elle to my wall. I felt inspired and excited by the fashion, the articles and the beauty …
