I vividly remember my first ever experience with Tom Ford… I was around sixteen, and wanted to treat myself to a lipstick. I was a newb in makeup and had recently invested in a blush, tinted moisturiser, perfume, brushes and an eyeshadow quad, all from Chanel. My makeup bag was pretty small but definitely my pride and joy – even at that point.
I was in Manchester one Thursday afternoon, and I found myself truly in awe of the Tom Ford counter… Champagne on ice. Hours later I emerged from Selfridges, feeling somewhat transformed. That was the first time my eyebrows had been drawn on, we went for Violet Fatale lipstick, stick foundation and masses of metallic cream eyeshadow. That was also the day I was introduced to the entire concept of ‘contouring.’ I had never felt so glamorous and naturally, I left with more than just a lipstick… Over four years later, I still shop at that very counter and I will only be assisted by that very wonderful makeup artist. #Loyalty
When I got the call, back in May to say that my reserved Summer 2015 products were available, I rushed to my TF haven. I had seen swatches and previews of the collection all over the place and so I knew roughly what to expect, Tom Ford has never let me down and so I was able to reserve what I wanted with that in mind. I feel like this collection is one of their best yet and reminiscent of the look I wore after my glamazon transformation back in 2011 – when Platinum and Spice were newly released.
Lets begin with the star of the Soleil Collection, the Eye and Cheek Compact in Pink Glow. At first, I didn’t know if I really needed this as it does come in at £68, but when I swatched it in store, I could not leave without it – uhh uh no way! The three eyeshadow shades are incandescent. One and three are buttery and blend like a dream while two is more of a pressed pigment – I like to call it ‘grown-up glitter.’ I find it best to press this onto the eyelid with your ring finger to get sufficient payoff.
The two cheek shades work harmoniously to give you a gorgeous flush with a natural and peachy highlight. I have found myself reaching for the deeper blusher most days, to amp up a look from day to night – layering on top of my Burberry Earthy blush.
It may seem crazy that I bought two blushers from the same collection however, a cream blush gives a totally different vibe to that of a powder. A cream formulation can look less heavy on the skin and give that undone and more relaxed feel – which I love! Pink Sand is dewy and full of shimmer and so I have been using for this for both blush and highlight, it blends seamlessly and gives a truly glowing finish – I find applying and blending with your fingers is better than using a brush.
Cream Eyeshadow was one of the first things I ever bought from Tom Ford, and so when I saw them return with the addition of a pressed pigment shadow, I was sold. There were re-releases in this collection and so I didn’t feel a need to pick up the others, Golden Peach was my pick. The formula of these has always been on point – they last so well and blend effortlessly. The pressed shadow compliments the cream perfectly, they really do last – You only need a tiny amount because they’re super pigmented!
Finally we have the Lip Colour Sheer in Skinny Dip. I believe I have over ten Tom Ford lipsticks in my collection, Violet Fatale being the first I ever bought and certainly a true favourite. TF lipsticks are unbeatable, I adore them. The shade range is stunning, the formula is long-lasting and the packaging is to-die-for! Skinny Dip is a sheer shimmer with a peachy hint of colour and looks stunning with laid-back makeup, especially with a Golden Peach eye look!
I ended up getting my hands on exactly what I wanted as I had my name on the reserve list back in March and then picked them up within a few days of the release. The Tom Ford 2015 Soleil Collection has been my favourite of the season, everything is so wearable! This rose gold theme is gorgeous for summer nights and I am sooo overjoyed I was able to add these to my makeup collection. I feel like these products will never lose their style; the shades are timeless and will be hues I shall return to every summer.
This time, when I emerged from Selfridges – it was a Thursday – I had that sixteen year old feeling again – a feeling of confidence and glamour, a feeling that will never go out of style.
